ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
The National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) is a private, not-for-profit
organization established in 1952 to provide a uniform date of appointment
to positions in graduate medical education (GME) in the United States.
The NRMP is not an application processing service; rather, it provides
an impartial venue for matching applicants' and programs' preferences
for each other consistently. The NRMP also conducts the annual Main Residency
Match encompassing 40,000 applicants for more than 25,000 positions in
core residencies, as well as matches for fellowship positions in 38 subspecialties
through its Specialties Matching Service.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Director of Matching Services is a senior leadership position with
the NRMP. The position is focused on management of the Main Residency
Match, the Specialties Matching Service, and Matches conducted by NRMP
International. The Director also is responsible for providing leadership
to NRMP's Help Desk Specialists Team and for serving as the business interface
with NRMP's Chief Information Officer.
The Director of Matching Services develops, implements, administers,
and evaluates NRMP's strategic plan to expand the Specialties Matching
Service and NRMP International; manages NRMP's outreach efforts to constituents
via its Help Desk Specialists; implements tools needed to assess the quality
of services and customer satisfaction with NRMP's Matching Program; and
collaborates with the NRMP Director of Communications in the preparation
of all external communications and website content.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS SOUGHT
The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in a health care discipline
(equivalent professional experience may be substituted) and at least ten
years of high-level professional experience, preferably in a leadership
position responsible for strategic planning and managing professional-level
staff. Familiarity with undergraduate and graduate medical education and
the residency selection process, and the ability to relate to international
clients and sensitivity to cultural diversity also are required.
Other critical skills and experience sought include:
- Experience developing, implementing, and administering a strategic
plan to expand a major organizational function, including collaborating
with a board of directors to set goals and objectives, marketing the
plan to constituents via written publications and public presentations,
and ongoing assessment of success
- Independent coordination of personnel and technical resources to fulfill
a major contract with established deadlines; experience in hiring, training,
and evaluating staff; ability to manage and delegate multiple projects
simultaneously and to develop, implement, and monitor customer service
standards
- Experience as a relationship manager for multiple constituent groups
(hospital CEOs, graduate medical education program directors, medical
school deans and applicants)
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and
provide leadership to a team
- Ability to independently analyze, solve, and respond to problematic
situations in a high-stakes and time-sensitive environment
- Strong public presentation and writing skills; ability to clearly
and concisely exchange ideas, facts, and technical information with
others and to formulate, implement, and administer long-range goals
and objectives
- Skill with PC database applications in a networked environment; ability
to analyze statistical data and draw inferences for management of NRMP
operations; experience working with and protecting sensitive/confidential
data

in core residencies, as well as Matches for fellowship positions in 38
subspecialties through its Specialties Matching Service®.
About the Position
The Senior Research Analyst (SRA) works closely with the Director of Research
to prepare publications and reports, load and verify data into the NRMP
Data Warehouse, and document and maintain analytical processes, methods,
and procedures for data storage and retrieval . The SRA also assists the
Director of Research in designing research projects, conducting data analyses
in support of research initiatives, and responding to data requests from
NRMP Board members and constituents.
Candidate Qualifications Sought
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in database management,
statistics, economics, or other social science. A Master's Degree is strongly
preferred. Candidate should have at least five years of experience in
data management, analysis, and reporting.
Other critical skills and experience sought include:
- Experience in database management system (DBMS) physical implementation,
including tables, joins, roles, objects and handling large data sets
with SQL or PL/SQL
- Expertise in using Excel, Access, and at least one statistical software
package (such as SPSS or SAS)
- Possess understanding and familiarity with Data Warehouse design concepts
- Experience with Crystal Reports strongly preferred.
- Fluency in survey research theory and practice desired
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to detect and troubleshoot anomalies
- Strong problem solving skills.
