Vascular Surgery

Vascular Surgery focuses on the diagnosis and longitudinal treatment of disorders of the arterial, venous, and lymphatic systems, excluding vessels of the brain and heart.  Additional information can be found through the Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery at www.vascular.org.

  • Applicants must have completed a residency in General Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery fellowships are two years in length

Thoracic Surgery

Thoracic Surgery focuses on the treatment of diseases and injuries of the heart, lungs, mediastinum, esophagus, chest wall, diaphragm, and great vessels.  Additional information can be found through the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association at www.tsda.org.

  • Thoracic surgery fellowships are two years in length (traditional format)

Application Process

The NRMP is not a centralized application service.  Candidates are responsible for determining whether the specialty participates in a standardized application service such as the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®) or whether they must apply directly to the programs of their choice.  Applicants must ensure they meet all program prerequisites and institutional policies regarding eligibility for appointment prior to ranking a program through the NRMP.
