Data and Reports
The NRMP has developed a highly reputable collection of reports and publications that inform and advance the matching process for both applicants and GME program directors. The NRMP’s data and research efforts also:
- Assist Match applicants in making informed decisions about their competiveness as candidates in their preferred specialties
- Educate Match participants about issues that most affect resident selection decisions
- Describe important trends in Match rates by state, specialty and program type
- Inform the medical education community and the media about the NRMP and the strong performance of its matching services
NRMP‘s data reporting and research activities are guided by its Data Release and Research Committee. All reports produced by the NRMP preserve the confidentiality of applicants, medical schools, residency programs, and teaching hospitals.
Have a Data Request?
Match Participants: Request for Historical Reports
While a Match is “open” in the NRMP’s Registration, Ranking, and Results (R3) system, participants registered for that Match can access reports under the “My Reports” tab in the left menu bar. The NRMP recommends reports be downloaded and/or printed on Match Day or soon thereafter because requests for Match reports submitted after a Match closes in the R3 system will incur a $200 fee per report. Reports available for request after a Match closes in the R3 system include “Match Results by Ranked Applicants” and “Characteristics of Matched Applicants” (program staff and institutional officials); “Match Results for Seniors” and “Characteristics of Matched Seniors” (medical school officials); and rank order lists (applicants). Other historical reports are unavailable.
Requests for reports should be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org and will be processed after payment has been received. Note: On July 1, 2016 NRMP began charging for historical reports.
Requests for Unpublished Data or Research Files
Requests for unpublished data or research files must be submitted using the data release application and are reviewed by the NRMP Data Release and Research Committee. The review process can take four to six weeks. If approved, the NRMP prepares a Data Licensing Agreement that must be executed by all parties. A fee of $200 for processing and $150 per hour for staff time will be charged. Questions can be directed to the NRMP Director of Research at email@example.com.
