Welcome to the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP®) Main Residency Match®. This “toolkit” for U.S. and Canadian medical schools provides the information needed to successfully navigate the Match season and achieve the best Match experience possible.
The NRMP’s online Registration, Ranking, and Results® (R3®) system is used by school officials to verify credentials and monitor the Match participation of their students and prior-year graduates as well as to obtain Match results and statistics. Because each task is completed through our secure and confidential R3 system, this toolkit is built around the three “Rs” to ensure school officials have the information and materials needed to successfully complete each task. Also available is the Applicant Toolkit for assisting students with the process.
What’s New for the 2017 Main Residency Match
- Policy Changes on Couples’ Rank Order Lists, Applicant-Program Communications, SOAP Rounds, and Fees
- NBOME ID number will now be required for registration for osteopathic students/graduates
NRMP registration for the Main Residency Match opens on September 15.
Uploading and Tracking Rising Seniors
Medical school officials can use the R3 system to track student participation in the Match and identify which students need to be reminded to register and certify a rank order list. U.S. allopathic medical school officials also can track students by uploading a list of their rising seniors. Functionality to upload student lists opens at 8:00 a.m. ET on October 1.
Verifying Graduation Credentials and SOAP Eligibility of Students/Graduates
Graduation credentials verification opens with ranking on January 15 at 12:00 p.m. ET. Students for whom it is known they are ineligible to enter graduate medical education (GME) on July 1 must be withdrawn from the Match. Verification and student withdrawals MUST be completed by the Rank Order List Deadline on February 22, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
Between Monday, March 6, at 8:00 a.m. ET and Wednesday, March 8, at 5:00 p.m. ET, medical school officials also must verify the eligibility of their students and graduates to participate in the Match Week Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program® (SOAP®). Students whose eligibility status has changed since the rank order list deadline should be identified and marked accordingly for SOAP.
Match Week Preparation
Between the Rank Order List Deadline and Match Week, NRMP takes a number of steps to ensure the accuracy of Match results. School officials should spend that time familiarizing themselves with SOAP resources so they are prepared to help any students who do not match.
