Position: Human Resources Manager

About the Organization

The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) is a private, not-for-profit organization established in 1952 to provide a uniform date of appointment to positions in graduate medical education (GME) in the United States. The NRMP is not an application processing service; rather, it provides an impartial venue for matching applicants’ and programs’ preferences for each other consistently. The NRMP conducts the annual Main Residency Match encompassing 40,000 applicants for more than 25,000 positions in core residencies as well as Matches for fellowship positions in 55 subspecialties through its Specialties Matching Service®.

Position Summary

The experienced Human Resources Manager will independently manage the daily functions of Human Resources (HR) including full cycle recruiting, benefits, leave administration, HR policy management and developing HR and organizational best practices. This position will also assist the CEO in staff activities such as quarterly and annual performance reviews, performance and disciplinary assessments, staff professional development, individual professional development, organizational culture, and employee morale initiatives, etc. This position has a matrix reporting structure and will report to the CEO for general HR responsibilities and the Director of Finance for payroll and benefits responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; ensures legal review of policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Maintain digital copies of employee personnel files.
  • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti- harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Manage and provide support for activities and programs pertaining to employee morale and company culture initiatives.
  • Assist with payroll processing as directed.
  • Perform routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, leave, employee relations, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, employee recognition, and morale initiatives, occupational health and safety, and training and development.
  • Receive employment-related inquiries from applicants and the NRMP employees, respond to simple and routine inquiries and refer complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate leadership.
  • Manage and provide support for employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and
  • investigations.
  • Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with hiring manager to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
    • Manage the process for employee background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implement new hire on-boarding and orientation. This will include the documentation of 30- 60-90- day objectives and evaluations.
  • Conduct exit interviews and provide a summary to the hiring manager and CEO of any relevant issues.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned including
    • Staff activities and wellness
    • Assist with identifying, coordinating, and participating in all-staff professional development
    • Assist employees with professional development needs
    • Initiatives pertaining to organizational culture and employee morale

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal employment regulations.
  • Experience with personnel and compliance records management.
  • Experience working with senior leadership and corporate counsel.
    • Ability to work independently without day-to-day oversight.
    • Ability to collaborate with others at all levels.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
    • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and work independently in a remote environment.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or higher or related field is preferred and documented education pertaining to human resource management.
  • A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of human resource management experience required. Experience with a remote workforce is required. Experience in an information technology environment is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficient in using HRIS/ HCM systems.
  • Experience with Paychex Flex Payroll/ HR software a plus.

ADA Specifications

This position is primarily remote and sedentary; however, this position will be expected to attend meetings in the Washington, DC headquarters or other locations with sufficient notice and as directed by the CEO. There may be occasional overnight travel and duties may require some bending and lifting.
