Shining a Light on Match News that Matters

This issue of the Illuminator includes:

USMLE/COMLEX Score Verification

USMLE/COMLEX Score Verification for Medical School Officials and Administrators

Deadline is May 13, 2022

The NRMP asks medical school officials and administrators to verify, and update if necessary, the USMLE and COMLEX scores of students and graduates who participated in the Main Residency Match by May 13, 2022 at 5 pm ET. Score verification in the R3 system ensures that we possess the most accurate applicant data for our reports and publications, including Charting Outcomes in the Match.

Although verification is voluntary, each school that completes the score verification process will receive a Characteristics of Matched Seniors report this fall comparing the characteristics of the school’s matched senior students with national percentile information.

View our Support Guides for step-by-step instructions on how to verify scores:

To address confidentiality concerns, the Match Participation Agreement states that applicants authorize their medical schools to release, verify, and transmit COMLEX and USMLE test scores to NRMP. In addition, during the Match registration process, applicants may elect not to enter their scores in the R3 system and/or opt out of having their scores used for research.

NRMP Connects

The NRMP is pleased to share newsworthy initiatives and happenings within the organization and GME community to foster conversations and improve connectedness.

In honor of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, we wanted to share a resource that may be of interest to you. Jake Goodman, MD, MBA, is a psychiatry resident physician and a mental health activist.

“I shared my story to be the doctor I needed to see when I was young dreaming what my life would look like as a physician. I am not a superhero. I am a doctor. I am a human being and I have struggled with mental health issues. And that’s okay.”

In addition to Dr. Goodman being a resident physician and mental health advocate, he is a social media content creator with over 1.7 million followers on his social media channels. He uses his platform to advocate for mental health and empower those experiencing mental health challenges to seek help.

If you are interested in learning more about Dr. Goodman, check out his personal story and mental health journey on YouTube and on his website.

NRMP does not endorse Dr. Jake Goodman but is sharing his resources for informational purposes.
