The NRMP Values Your Opinion! Community Invited to Submit Comments
September 1, 2020
The NRMP has a long record of collecting and analyzing data to support research and inform the Match and policies for medical education. One area in which the NRMP historically has not collected data is the demographic characteristics of participants. While the NRMP does not need this information to process the matching algorithm, the data could help shed light on patterns and trends related to demographic characteristics of participants.
There have been concerns raised and national discussion generated around potential bias related to applicant demographics. Collection and use of demographic data could make an important contribution to that discussion as well as policy development. If implemented, demographic data will be used solely for the purposes of research and will be anonymized to prevent individuals from being identified.
In order to better understand the support and/or concerns the medical education community may have for collection and use of demographic data, the NRMP requests public comment that will inform our future research agenda. Please click on the link below to access a quick, simple survey to provide your comments.
The public comment period will be open from Tuesday, September 1, through Wednesday, September 30 at 12:00 pm ET. Your time and support is greatly appreciated.
