Shining a Light on Match News that Matters

This issue of the Illuminator includes:

Decision of the NRMP® Board of Directors Regarding the Proposal for a Two-Phase Match

As you may be aware, the National Resident Matching Program issued on August 2 a statement outlining a proposed Two-Phase Match. At the same time, the NRMP distributed a public comment survey to solicit feedback from the community about the proposal and invited national medical education and medical student organizations to engage in a period of public testimony.

The NRMP wanted to ensure the UME and GME communities had ample opportunity to effectively communicate their thoughts and perspectives. Those reflections were shared with the Board of Directors at its October 9 meeting, and the Board deliberated on next steps.

Read the Board’s decision about the proposed Two-Phase Match.

The NRMP deeply appreciates the input from the community and discussions with partner organizations and institutions and we will continue to pursue improvements in the transition to residency.

Match News and Reminders

Applicant Match History in the R3 system

The Applicant Match History available in the R3 system should be used to determine whether Main Residency Match applicants have existing Match commitments or are eligible for appointment before offering them interviews. The Applicant Match History also indicates whether an applicant has a waiver or an active sanction.

Current medical students do not need to be screened since they have no prior Match history.

If you have any questions, assistance is available from the NRMP support staff Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. ET by emailing support@nrmp.org or calling 866-653-NRMP (6767).

NRMP’s Fall Meeting with Designated Institutional Officials (DIOs) is on November 14

NRMP President and CEO, Dr. Donna Lamb, and staff will host the upcoming fall NRMP-DIO Zoom call on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. ET.

The NRMP established these calls in 2021 to occur twice a year between NRMP leadership and the DIO community to create a forum in which to discuss NRMP policies, Match activities, and issues affecting institutions and programs relevant to the transition to residency.

All DIOs registered with the NRMP received an invitation to the meeting. Since these meetings are only for the DIOs invited, please do not forward the meeting invite to others.
