Your Guide to the Main Residency Match
Welcome to the Main Residency Match! The Match is designed to promote an even playing field, where all participants follow the same rules and adhere to the same deadlines and where applicants can consider all options before making decisions.
The Matching Process
The Main Residency Match provides an impartial venue for matching applicants’ and residency programs’ preferences for each other using an internationally recognized mathematical algorithm. The NRMP is not an application processing service; rather, you rank positions at which you have applied and interviewed and may match when your training preferences align with the program’s preferences.
If you are not matched when the matching algorithm is processed, you may attempt to obtain an available unfilled position during the Match Week Supplemental Offer and Acceptance Program (SOAP).
