Medical Genetics focuses on the comprehensive diagnosis, management, treatment, risk assessment, and counseling of patients who have or are at risk for having genetic disorders or disorders with a genitive component. - Applicants must have completed at least one year in an ACGME-accredited residency.
- Medical Genetics fellowships are two years in length; training may be combined into a four-year program for those applicants with no prior residency training.
- The Association of Professors of Human and Medical Genetics has voluntarily implemented the All In Policy for Medical Genetics programs since the 2016 Match. Information can be found on the All In Policy: Fellowship Programs page.

The NRMP is not a centralized application service. Candidates are responsible for determining whether the specialty participates in a standardized application service such as the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS®) or whether they must apply directly to the programs of their choice. Applicants must ensure they meet all program prerequisites and institutional policies regarding eligibility for appointment prior to ranking a program through the NRMP.
