Chair Designate

Michael G. Kavan is a Professor of Family and Community Medicine and a Professor of Psychiatry at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He also serves as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs for the medical school. Dr. Kavan received his Bachelor’s degree majoring in psychology from Creighton University and his Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln following an APA-Approved internship at the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Kavan is a licensed psychologist whose scholarly interests include medical student wellness, the assessment and management of anxiety and depression, medical specialty and career counseling, and medical student affairs and student mental health issues. He is a member of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Kavan has served as the national chair for the AAMC Group on Student Affairs and the chair of the AAMC Careers in Medicine Advisory Committee. He currently serves as a senior director of the NRMP Board of Directors.
