2022 Charting Outcomes in the Match is Now Available

The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) has published the 2022 Charting Outcomes in the Match research reports.

These biennial reports highlight applicant characteristics that contribute to a program’s overall assessment of an applicant and provide analysis of the relationship between applicant characteristics and matching to a preferred specialty. Ten to twelve measures are examined in the reports, depending on the applicant type, and include the number of contiguous ranks in preferred specialty, the number of distinct specialties ranked, USMLE® Step 1 and Step 2 CK scores (for U.S. MD seniors and IMGs), COMLEX-USA® Level 1 and Level 2-CE scores (for U.S. DO seniors), and the numbers of research experiences, publications, and work and volunteer experiences.

Interactive Charting Outcomes in the Match is updated

The NRMP also provides interactive versions of Charting Outcomes in the Match based on USMLE and COMLEX Step 1/Level 1 score data. The interactive versions use the 2022 data to provide Match applicants the ability to customize report output based on specialty of interest, Match year(s), and the applicant’s personal characteristics. The interactive versions of Charting Outcomes in the Match rely on the data visualization software Tableau and draw from the same data sources as the NRMP’s Charting Outcomes in the Match reports.

Medicine and Pediatric Specialties Match Opens on August 24

The NRMP has combined its Medical Specialties Matching Program and Pediatric Specialties Fellowship Match into a new ‘Medicine and Pediatric Specialties Match,’ beginning this year for the 2023 appointment year. This is NRMP’s largest fellowship Match and the match will include 39 medicine and pediatric subspecialties.

Over the past two years, the NRMP worked with the Council of Pediatric Subspecialties, the Association of Pediatric Program Directors, and the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine to explore the benefits to applicants and feasibility of combining the Matches. Combining these subspecialties into a single Match allows an applicant to rank Medicine, Pediatrics, and multidisciplinary programs on the same rank order list for combined training and permits partners in each specialty to participate in the combined Match as a couple.

The first combined Medicine and Pediatric Specialties Match opens on August 24 for the 2023 appointment year with the following schedule:

August 24 at 12:00 p.m. ET: Match Opens

September 28 at 12:00 p.m. ET: Rank Order List Opens

November 2 at 11:59 p.m. ET: Quota Change Deadline

November 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET: Rank Order List Certification Deadline

November 30 at 12:00 p.m. ET: Match Day

We’d also like to welcome two new subspecialties to the 2022 Medicine and Pediatric Specialties Match: Addiction Medicine and Addiction Psychiatry!

If you have any questions about the Medicine and Pediatric Specialties Match, please contact the NRMP Support Team at support@nrmp.org.
