NRMP Board Approves Medical School Fee Supporting Match Resources

To ensure continued, comprehensive support and new and expanded reporting to medical schools and their students, the NRMP Board of Directors has approved the implementation of a Medical School Registered Applicants fee beginning with the 2026 Main Residency Match. The fees outlined in the table below reflect a tiered, flat fee structure based on the number of senior students from each school/campus who register to participate in the Match.

The NRMP is committed to continuous quality improvement and building and implementing new initiatives and system enhancements to improve or inform the matching process as part of the transition to residency. An email was sent to school officials and administrators with additional information about the efforts central to schools and applicants.

At the conclusion of the 2026 Main Residency Match, the NRMP will invoice medical schools through the NRMP’s R3 system. NRMP has updated the Match Fees page on the NRMP website with this and other helpful information.

NRMP staff is always available at support@nrmp.org to answer any questions you may have. We value our partnership with medical schools and look forward to ways we can continue to build and enhance the unparalleled matching services and resources we offer to schools, learners, and programs.

NRMP’s Program Directory for Residency Applicants

Share the Program Directory with your Main Residency Match applicants.

With multiple application services now available to applicants, the Program Directory provides additional support to applicants in their considerations of training. The Program Directory displays participating program information and the application service programs are using, where provided, for over 6,000 PGY-1 and PGY-2 programs participating in the NRMP’s Main Residency Match. Key program information also includes locations, links to the institution and program websites, NRMP program code, and program type.

This is a valuable resource for residency applicants so they can have the most accurate information when researching programs!

Main Residency Match Programs – Has your program’s application information been updated in the Program Directory? Make sure to log in to the Registration, Ranking, and Results (R3) system and update your program information so residency applicants have accurate information.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the NRMP support staff between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM ET at 866-653-NRMP (6767), or by email at support@nrmp.org

Policy Corner: Important Reminder for Programs

With the 2025 Main Residency Match now concluded, applicants and programs have turned their attention toward efforts and activities needed to complete onboarding for training. But what if there are unexpected bumps in the road? Match policies provide guidance on what to do if a program’s status changes after Match Week (e.g., loss of funding/ accreditation/closure).

The NRMP Match Participation Agreement outlines the steps that a program must take in the event it closes and cannot provide training to matched applicants:

13.0 Program Closures and Reduction in Complement of Matched Applicants

Programs closing or reducing the complement of matched applicants on or before the 45th day of training must notify the NRMP in writing of the method it will employ to assist each matched applicant in securing another graduate medical education position.

Although not common, we want to be sure programs are aware of the obligation to inform the NRMP of a change in program status and create a plan to support matched applicants. By working together and communicating effectively, we can help displaced applicants pursue positions in another program to complete their training.

If you have any questions or concerns about this or any other policy, please email policy@nrmp.org. We are here to help ensure a successful transition into residency for all Match participants.
