NRMP President and CEO Releases Letter to the Community Addressing Congressional Inquiry
The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) has released a Letter to the Community from President and CEO Dr. Donna Lamb that offers essential insight of the recent congressional inquiry into the transition to residency and U.S. physician pipeline.
In her message, Dr. Lamb:
- Provides historical context on NRMP and why an antitrust exemption was established for U.S. matching programs;
- Summarizes key congressional concerns and highlights from the congressional hearing;
- Corrects mischaracterizations made about The Match® and the broader transition to residency landscape; and
- Shares a robust perspective on the intended scope of the antitrust exemption and why repealing it would not improve specific congressional concerns about the transition to residency or the nation’s physician workforce.
At a time of heightened scrutiny, understanding the impact that repealing the antitrust exemption could have for our nation’s young physicians has never been more important. NRMP urges the medical education community and its partners to read Dr. Lamb’s full letter and to voice support of The Match with local and national leaders, particularly the members of the Subcommittee. The Subcommittee may be reached by phone at (202) 225-6906 or via the webform available at https://judiciary.house.gov/contact.
