Stay Informed. Stay Compliant. Support a Fair Match!

Each year, thousands of applicants, programs, and medical schools participate in the Main Residency Match®. The National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) is committed to ensuring a transparent and fair process for all participants.

To help participants understand and meet their obligations under the Match Participation Agreement, NRMP has created a new resource, Policy Tips and Reminders, for Match participants that outlines key responsibilities, rights, and best practices throughout the recruitment, ranking, and onboarding phases.

Explore the resources below to ensure you are aligned with Match policies and obligations.

For Medical Schools

Guide your programs and students.

Medical schools play a vital role in maintaining accuracy and fairness in the Match. This handout highlights essential reminders about complete and timely information sharing, FERPA compliance, applicant rights, and the importance of communicating student status changes throughout the Match process.

For Programs

Communicate clearly and protect your program’s integrity.

Residency and fellowship programs set the tone for professionalism in recruitment and matching. This handout outlines expectations for interview conduct, communication standards, ranking confidentiality, and post-Match.

For Applicants

Apply honestly and rank thoughtfully.

Applicants are responsible for providing accurate and complete information throughout the Match and honoring the binding commitment once results are released. This handout provides tips and reminders to help applicants navigate the process with professionalism and integrity.
